In June of 1982, Coventry Chorale had its beginning as an audition-only, community based choral organization whose goal was to perform works from the Baroque and Classical periods for small choral ensembles. The first concert was presented on November 21, 1982.
The Chorale's repertoire expanded rapidly through performances with the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra, Solisti New York Chamber Orchestra in the Oklahoma International Mozart Festival, and its own concerts. More recently the Chorale has performed at Tulsa's Holy Family Cathedral's 1999 centennial festival observance, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Ada, St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church in Pryor, Oklahoma, as well as special performances at the Philbrook Art Center. As the concert opportunities multiplied, the Chorale broadened its scope to include more modern works, both sacred and secular. However, the goal of Coventry Chorale remains the performance of masterworks seldom heard locally, and to present them to the community in a manner consistent with their origins and traditions.
The Chorale is incorporated as a nonprofit arts organization in the State of Oklahoma and is a member of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa.
DAVID ROLLO, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
David Rollo received his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Vocal Performance from the University of Tulsa and further studied voice and conducting at the University of Oklahoma. Until his retirement from Holland Hall School, Mr. Rollo held the position of Vocal Music Instructor for over 25 years, and was also Chairman of the Fine Arts Department and Director of Student Activities. He has been a soloist in performance with the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra and prepared the choral repertoire for conductors Joel Lazar and Bernard Rubenstein. He is a member of the International Federation of Choral Musicians, (I.F.C.M.), and the American Choral Directors Association, (A.C.D.A.). Mr. Rollo has been a member of the adult choir at Trinity Episcopal Church since 1980, has chaired the Commission on Liturgy and Worship, and served two terms on the Vestry. More recently, Mr. Rollo produced and conducted the Tulsa performance of Mozart's "REQUIEM" on September 11, 2002 as part of the Seattle Symphony Chorus 'Rolling Requiem Project'.
JACKIE BOYD, ACCOMPANIST
The Chorale's organ accompanist, Jackie Boyd, teaches music at Grissom Elementary School in Tulsa. She is the manager and assistant director of Tulsa Boy Singers and is the founding director of the Tulsa Girl Singers.
